Mr. Suraj Vanniarachchy has 18-years’ experience in the carbon market. He sits within the principal investment team in Macquarie’s Global Carbon business and is responsible for originating low carbon project development opportunities. He also leads the technical due diligence process for carbon project investments and has a deep understanding of Article 6 developments in various jurisdictions.


A forester by profession, prior to joining Macquarie, Suraj designed and developed carbon reduction and avoidance projects under different standards including The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Verra across multiple regions.


He has extensive experience across a range of project types including blue carbon, reforestation, soil carbon and REDD+, renewable energy and improved cookstoves. He is also a Technical Advisory Committee member for the Plan Vivo Standard and sits on Verra’s VCS Program Advisory Group, Forest Carbon Innovations and Blue Carbon Working Groups.
